Location - Kapitelplatz 6, Domplatz
Salzburg Cathedral plays host to the Archbishop's art collection from the 17th century.
It is a magnificent collection.
On display are exhibits of religious art, icons, and objects dating back to the Middle Ages - as well as some great views out the window of the old city!
Not short of cash, governing Archbishops, through the ages, collected beautiful and important paintings as well as liturgical utensils and vestments.
Works of art and treasures include gold and jewel studded sacral pieces from the 12th to 18th centuries, and the 'crowning work', St. Rupert's Cross from Bischofshofen.
This cross, the largest still intact metal cross, dates from the first millennium of Christianity.
It is said to be approximately 1300 years old and once upon a time probably stood in the original cathedral.
